What is padel, and how is it different from tennis?
Padel is a doubles racket sport played on an enclosed court about a third of the size of a tennis court, where the walls are part of the game. It's easier to pick up than tennis, and most beginners are rallying within their first lesson. It's one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK, including here in Newark-on-Trent.
Do I need to be fit or experienced to start padel lessons?
No. Padel suits all ages and fitness levels, and beginners are welcome at every lesson I run in Newark-on-Trent. If you're over 50 or coming back to sport after a break, the O50 over-50s club is a gentle, social way to start.
What does a Playtomic rating mean in padel?
A Playtomic rating is a matchmaking number that moves up when you win and down when you lose. It's useful for finding fair games, but it can't see your technique, tactics or decision-making, which is where coaching comes in.
Where are the lessons held?
Every session is held at Equinox in Newark-on-Trent, a BPCA centre of excellence, with covered courts and easy parking.
What should I bring to my first padel lesson?
Trainers with good grip, comfortable sportswear and a bottle of water. I provide rackets and balls, so you can try the sport properly before buying any kit.
